Two BEST- two factors, the main rules in salmon fishing.

Two main Factors: fishing location and angler position

The river Chavanga surprises us from the very beginning of a season. Both September and October also have appeared successful for catching of a salmon. Periodic rains saved high enough water level in the river. The temperature fluctuated within 7-9 degrees. Fresh sea fish rose in the river every day. Therefore to catch it was comfortable. The  nearest to the sea site of the river has numerous and various places which are convenient for rest of a salmon and are convenient for its catching. For adaptation of fishers we use Cable Pool. It is the big and long turn of the river with coast convenient for movement and not strong current. Especially it is convenient for catching during a high water level.

Here   it is possible to use -2 BEST-  a principle of catching of a salmon that means to use the best place for a salmon and the best place for the fisher. If you are capable to find or define these two best places on the river,  your   chance of successful catching sharply raises. If you are capable independently or by  help of the guide to define the best place for parking or movement of a salmon and can take the best place that  allow you to fish this place correctly - then you the successful fisher. These two moments basically   define your success. Quality of tackle, casting quality   and subjective efficiency of a fly appear often on the second and third plan.

We face often that fishers cannot use the salmon tackle correctly. Often there are problems with  correct casting  and especially with presentation of a fly. In such cases the correct choice of a place of catching and a correct choice of a fisher position   defines success of fishing. The correct choice of a place sharply raises chance of a meeting of a salmon and a   fly, and the correct position levels many problems in casting quality   and especially in fly  presentation  .

If to speak about the most important in salmon catching - about presentation of a fly -  using  of  2BEST,   is often the most important moment in achievement of really correct presentation.

 

Strelna river. September first week. Good news!

 After plentiful rains in the beginning of August the water level in the river Strelna was high throughout all month. But to the beginning of September, water has considerably fallen, and salmon fishing was comfortable. When we crossed a river mouth, numerous salmons  were  jumped out of water  . The autumn course of a salmon was intensive . The first fishes have been caught quickly enough. The first impression - fishes is a lot of, its average weight was considerably above than in the spring. But now salmons reacted to a fly more inertly. It was possible to see, how salmons pass by without reacting to a fly. The best places for casting  were the positions from which it was possible to submit a fly to places of probable rest of a salmon.    As well as on the river Chavanga the rule   works  - to find the best place for  salmons and to take of the best position for fishing. If on Chavanga often it is necessary to move on a river bed, choosing the best position,  on the river Strelna it is necessary to go   more often on the rocky banks.

River waterflow  is difficult enough and powerful and  there were problems at flies presentation. Long two-handed fishing-rods gave the chance to make more efficient control of a line and   fly. In spite of the fact that salmons rose to a surface and jumped out of water, their interest to a surface was insufficient. The water level fell, the temperature fluctuated within 11-13 degrees. Conditions have developed almost ideal. But on my supervision, the special success was brought by large volume flies.  Ally ` s shrimp style flies workedvery poorly  . It seemed that the salmon has no any concrete preferences and the main things still have correct presentation. To become successful it is necessary to eliminate lateral movements of a fly and and to keep a bait on a rapid current in a perspective place. I caught an one-handed fishing-rod. To me it was uneasy, as it was necessary to use special  casts and variety of mendings   to avoid current influence. Otherwise the current quickly took out a fly from a perspective zone. Still I liked flies with volume   dark wing against which the contrast element - a silver body has been accurately expressed. I will add that  Silver Doctor   sometimes worked  well.

Fabrizio was the most succesfull fisherman during this week. He  is able to have good position, he cast exactly, he cerrect the line position well and is very easy to change his technique according situation.

The end of May and the beginning of June consider many as the most interesting time for catching of a salmon. It is possible to agree with these fishers. In the river it is a lot of fish, it is active and willingly reacts to baits. Still there are no mosquitoes and a catching condition are comfortable enough. There is one factor which should be considered at fishing planning. It is level of spring water in the river.

But a spring river condition  is    very difficultly to predict. Therefore as more reliable are considered last week May and the beginning of June. In this season the water level in the Strelna  river was comfortable, water temperature made 10-11 degrees. The water level in the river gradually decreased.   The Strelna falls braked lifting of fish upwards on the river. All places where fishes could have a rest, have been filled by a salmon.

 The salmon actively reacted to a fly. To my astonishment  Shrimp fly was allocated with nothing, and   same atractor, but with a black wing is better. It seemed to me that fly in style Red Frencis well worked. At least, salmons instantly reacted to its occurrence. When I have lost last - then it was necessary to think of other variant.  6-8 doubles Nothern Autumn fly  of my collection worked well. Though the size of a fly did not play  a special role  . It was more important to submit a fly more close to a bottom. In places with a water rapid current took out a bait on a surface. Double hand rods are very useful. One or two meters of rod length give us more variants to correct line and fly position. Especially when we used  sinking lines  and leaders. Sometimes we  practised casts upstream to give some seconds on fly immersing.

Catching among Strelna falls and rocks is interesting enough and difficult. It is necessary to be able to operate a line on a powerful current. Catching in a river mouth has appeared quieter and convenient. The large quantity of fish came with inflow into a Strelna river mouth. The average size of fishes has made 3-3.5 kg. There were  fresh sea fish, silver one that  stays in estuary during winter-spring and silver kelt, going back to the White sea.

 Probably, such abundance has also a negative side. I was quickly enough tired with such catching. It has seemed to me enough the monotonous. In my opinion, catching on small water in the middle of a season is not so productive, but is more interesting and is fascinating.
