Diet #3. Low water level. Grayling fishing.

The hot summer was observed not only in Europe, but also on Kola Peninsula. A heat and absence of rains have led to falling of a water level and it’s warming up to 23 degrees. It was possible to expect sharp decrease in activity of fish. But it has not occurred, even in such boiled water activity of graylings was simply extraordinary. Probably it is connected with minimum water drift and in some measure with a lack of forage in places of   concentration of fishes. Stomachs of the studied fishes contained very   small amount of forage.    Here the rests of small insects and worm Gordius aquaticus are visible.  Usual  bottom fauna is  absent. In such conditions fish was active and reacted to bait immediately.  Imitating flies were effective, but it was more convenient to catch on the nymph in bright colours and on fantasy wet flies

The grayling diet #2. Minnow spawning period.

The greatest difficulty is  the cases of a selective  feeding of graylings. During such periods it don`t react on ordinary flies. If it is possible to find out character of its food then it is possible to find parking lots of fish and to pick up good fly. This time grayling ate exclusively river minnow. Fish stood under coast near to spawning places of this small fishes. The streamer simulating a minnow was an effective fly. A catching - method - wet fly, aggressive wet fly or streamer technique.  Catching methods on the nymph, wet\dry flies simulating insects and attractor flies did not work in general during this week of minnow spawn.

The grayling diet # 1. Chavanga river early season

There is grayling, caught on the river Chavanga in the beginning of a season in high water.  Stomach contents the weight of different organisms which fish collected at coast near to the main channel of the river.  The fauna -sedge larvae, stoneflies, bloodsuckers is presented basically heavyweight bottom organisms. Spring high water level, intensive drift but without any surface activity. The best way to fishing- weighted nymphs, short line methods.

The latest news from the Chavanga river.

The most intensive has begun with the end of September during the last years calling of a salmon from the sea in the river. The set of fresh fish has risen from the sea. Such quantity it was not observed within several years. Probably, it is connected with is abnormal in the warm summer. The salmon did not hasten to come into the river in warm low water. From June till August the course of fish was rather insignificant. The basic part of fish has come in the end of May. And here now all fish expecting in the sea, has gone to the river. At favorable winter it is possible to expect successful fishing in May and June. We will hope!

Quickly - because the interesting site of the river can be passed for 1-2 days. The river is located absolutely near to our hotel and it is possible to reach water hour. The top site in the alloy beginning too represents an interlacing of sleeves of the river, big and fast, suddenly absolutely narrow and small. The river shares on some parts and set of its sleeves remain uninspected. Behind stones come across quite good chars and mikiza - Kamchatka kind of rainbow trout. In places deeper and quiet on I will flash came across Silver salmons in the spawning dress. Here too everywhere traces of summer abundance, remains of salmons, the bear tracks on coast.

Closer to road in the end of our alloy river becomes much more largely and more deeply. In the evening when we put boats, it was possible to see splashes of large fishes in different places on a surface. Already in twilight last minutes, any healthy big fish has struck in my fly. There can be it there was a trout, and there can be fresh salmon who has already come into the river.

There is an impression that the affinity of the sea fills these rivers with set of fish. On the other hand numerous sleeves of the river, blockages and almost impassable places create weight of the sites inaccessible to the person. Therefore the affinity of road on a map does not speak about availability and poverty of the river. All depends on desire of the fisher and its physical form. Here I should pay attention once again to an excellent combination of an emotional alloy to comfortable rest in hotel. There is a possibility to dry up a thing, to bathe in hot pool, to have supper at small restaurant. Believe me, it may be very important in such travel.
