End of September, week 3.

Kola Peninsula Salmon fishing. Autumn season.

Summer and first part of September 2014 were again dry as in 2013.   Therefore, the water level was quite low. Fresh sea fish   came into the river cautiously. In such circumstances, it is OK to fish  resident salmon, but not easy to fish siver one. .   We were happy to have met the first heavy rains. Within 2-3 days the water level rose by 15 cm, and the water temperature dropped from 10- 9 degrees to comfortable 6.  Under these conditions salmon from the sea became more active . Ussually we landed large resident males weighing up to 5 kg, but silver salmon did not exceed 3.5 - 4 kg. Sometimes  we had  good size (88 sm)  salmons that entered the river in late August, early September. They are distinguished from fresh fish light lilac shade on the back. In my opinion the sea salmon responded well to conventional salmon flies, especially if they are   presented  with minimal lateral drift. Aggressive type flies as sunray shadow  can be used across and by striping. It was a good week for fishing, although we have not yet seen the mass appearance of sea salmon in the river,  ..

Fishing wild rainbow trout!

The main charm of fishing in Kamchatka - the ability to specifically catch trophy wild rainbow trout. Finally, we can give you full information about the exciting new river, new route, which is just suitable for this purpose. It may be noted that in the river there are all other kinds of fish that are typical for the rivers of Kamchatka. There are all Pacific salmon species, there are many types of chars, including trophy sizes Kunja -  white spotted char. And of course - the main goal for many experienced anglers - large rainbow trout. I later will focus on ways to catch her, but I can say at once that here you can catch the fish and dry fly, it all depends on your desire.

In the first part of the information about this program, I want to talk a little bit about the river. A medium-sized river. It flows from the volcano and flows to the Sea of Okhotsk. The territory is uninhabited and entry here is limited boundaries of the National Park and gold mines.

Highlighted section of the river for fishing and leased from the state for 20 years is near  40 km. The site is located in the middle reaches of the river, where it flows through the walleys and hills. The river is diverse and very convenient for fly-fishing. The water is crystal clear with a turquoise hue. Fish population is very high. In any place that may be of interest for the fish, it is. Interestingly, the fish takes place not only in the main channel of the river, but also in numerous branches. it makes fishing more interesting and varied. To talk about the size of pacific salmons makes no sense. The biggest trout fishing our last reached 64 cm in length, white spotted char - 74 cm and the dolly warden has reached 67 cm in length.

In the next part i will give you info about fishing organization and fishing.
All the best!!

Part 2.                              FISH!!!

The river is rich enough. There are all kinds of fish, which are found in the rivers of Kamchatka. the only exception is the grayling,  which for some unknown reason has not got us hooked. On the first day we were able to see all members of the fish fauna that live in the river permanently or come out of the sea. . It should be noted that there are normal seasonal framework for the emergence of highly migratory fish stocks. Chinook appears at the end of June and July, then pink salmon. sockeye, by the end of August  the river enters Silver and in  October - steelhead.

An overview of the fall season of salmon fishing on the coast of the White Sea in the Kola Peninsula.

Autumn season for salmon fishing in Russia.

Mid-September is always represents an interesting time. It is characterized by increased activity of resident prespawning salmon and the appearance of silver salmon in the river from the sea. Catching resident fish at this time is not very difficult. One can only note that its possible to land  salmons of especially large sizes. Probably, this can be explained by the fact that most of the season, these large salmon were passive and did not come across on the hook. I think that the real size  of the salmon  population   can be seen in the autumn during the spawning period, the period of increased activity of resident fish.
The massive appearance  of silver sea salmons in the river Chavanga usually begins in mid-September. But usually it depends on the state of water in the river, its level and temperature. On a rainy year appearance of fresh salmon does not stop for the entire season. So it was in 2012, when after a heavy rainfall   salmon runs in the river was observed from  mid-August. After a dry summer, when the water level in the river is low,   salmon run begins gradually intensifying after the rains and with decreasing of temperature of the river water. To anticipate the maximum   of sea salmon run in the river - too many factors must be taken into account. Therefore, based on the statistics of previous years, we can only assume the most successful weeks for  silver salmon fishing. In the autumn   this period takes 4 weeks - it lasts from mid-September to mid-October, when the season ends. Actual motion of salmon continues in late autumn and most  intencive  salmon run   into the river can be observed in November.
Therefore, the last 2 weeks of September and 2 weeks of October are valid for prime time of  salmon fishing on the coast of the White Sea of the Kola Peninsula.
