To fish or to cook? Salmon dishes on the fire.

For some years the river had admirers. I think that at first all are involved with possibility perfectly to fish. Tent camp in the season beginning allow to be near water all day and night. But such arrangement on to river bank forces to be engaged not only fishing but also an economy. This cultivation of fire, meal preparation, table layout. When fish pecks, these duties do not burden fishers. This 2005 was remembered by that was especially pleasant to be engaged in an economy. We have agreed serially to prepare the favourite recipes from a salmon. Dishes turned out not only unusually tasty! It appears that at a fire it is possible to prepare fish in any kind! I have counted 15 original recipes only salmon dishes. It was fine addition to fine fishing and the most beautiful of weathers.

Special mixture- sauna, vodka and salmon.

This command has arrived for the first time on Chavanga river. Fishers from Lithuania and Germany have gathered, talked in English, together caught, went to a sauna and drank Russian vodka. These years we have already started the program with trips on the top sites of the river. Now it is our standard programs. But then we used it at the desire of fishers. It is always interesting to look at new places. The special impression was made by the top site of the river near to falls. In the middle of a season this is good place for large fishes. In stone gorges there is a place for the largest salmons. Here the greatest population of a grayling on the river. With pleasure I remember those days, it was cheerful also fish was active too.

Very tasty diet but difficult to fish.

Some times during a season it is possible to meet very difficult situation. Fish passes to exclusively high-calorie diet. In July, August and September to fish there is accessible a caviar pink salmon which breeds in many rivers of Kola peninsula. During the spawning the caviar part is carried away by water. It is very accessible and high-calorie forage for fishes. Therefore  fish often ignores   usual baits below places of spawning.

 Such picture repeats also in the autumn. After water level lifting, the caviar part is carried away by a current from spawning places. Fishes start to be fed with exclusively caviar and often leave the usual places. It leads to problems at catching of fishes. It is necessary to find places of a congestion of fishes and to find a way of catching and bait presentation. Heavy imitations    presented near the bottom usually helped. Probably, heavy nymph got to a sheet of water at the bottom. Here fishes selected caviar. On the other hand, it is possible to explain efficiency of a heavy fly to that full fish simply did not want to rise from a bottom.   So, fish ignored flies in thickness of water.
